Green Lake Hotel (Cui Hu Binguan)
Originally opened by the Hongta tobacco group in 1956, and later by Hilton, this was Kunming's very first hotel to be opened to foreigners. The location easily surpasses any of the downtown five-stars and its two new wings make is a tempting new choice. The rooms are very well maintained and luxuriously appointed with huge king-size beds, making this one of the few locally run five-stars that can give the multinationals a run for their money. The lake is wonderful area to stroll, as is the university, although the military academy can safely be ignored.
