After a 6-month restoration process, the archway located in Zhengyangmen of the Qianmen area reappeared in front of the citizens on Sunday.
Located in the southern part of Zhengyangmen, this archway was originally built during the Qing Dynasty. In 1958, it was demolished as required by city construction regulations.
The archway was rebuilt in 2001 with 6 pillars, 4 of which were suspended 6.5 meters above ground. With this second restoration, the archway has been demolished again.
The restoration of Qianmen Avenue and the Zhengyangmen archway began in May. This project was undertaken with strict adherence to historical records. On Sunday, the restoration process came to an end; the archway now stands proud above Qianman Avenue.
