Taihe Shanzhuang
Located within the grounds of the Jiayu Guan Fort, this replica of a Qing dynasty courtyard house allows you to spend more time at Jiayu Guan's main attraction and to view the fort at sunrise and sunset, when the earthen ramparts are highly photogenic. Make sure to get the suite as other rooms do not come with private bathrooms. Beds are hard and bathrooms are slightly grimy but the atmosphere is unbeatable. The restaurant fare is decent. Combined with the magnificent fort, this guesthouse makes for the pretty good "real China" experience.
