Biking and Bike Rental

As in most places in China, biking is an excellent way to get around for both visitors and locals alike. Chengdu is very flat, and plenty of wide bike lanes well separated from vehicular traffic make biking safe as well. You shouldn't worry too much about local Chinese bikers and mopeds, as I find most Chengdu residents ride at very easy, safe speeds. Mosthotelsare able to rent out bikes for usually no more than 20 Yuan per day.
 
However, those looking to rent a reliable, multi-speed bike for an all day or multi-day ride outside of Chengdu should contact Peter at Peter@bikechina.com. Peter, a cycling fanatic, runs a very well known China bicycle touring company called.... Bike China. In addition to the tours, he will also rent out bikes for 100 RMB per day. There is a 1000 RMB deposit for each bike. The bikes are in top condition, and Peter will set you up with everything you need including quality helmets, panniers, and bike repair tools. Be sure to email him as far in advance as possible... he can be a very busy man.
