The building for Asia's biggest parking lot on Shanghai's Chengshan Road is expected to be completed on October 31.
The 346 by 312-meter project will be able to handle 1,200 buses, Shanghai Evening Post reported yesterday.
Based on the parking requirements for a local bus company, the mega-garage has had its roof sealed and will have 137,333 square meters in parking space.
As a bus hub in the city's Pudong New Area, it will include a four-story garage, a 15-floor office building as well as factories and workshops for bus repairs and maintenance. The construction of the bus hub, which started on January 26, 2007, was reportedly one of the city's most environmentally friendly projects. Residents nearby had no complaints about noise or air pollution, the newspaper said.
Work on the building site began in the morning and ended at 6pm. Night work was not allowed, the report said.
New technologies and equipment were adopted during pile work to control the noise, said the head of the project department.
Authorities installed cameras at the gate of the building site to supervise it.
