Festival fares remaining at a fair price

Fares to popular destinations are not increasing a lot for the Qingming Festival, industry sources said yesterday.

Ctrip, China's major online travel agency, said discounts of flights to Qingdao and Xiamen dropped on April 4, the festival, from 50 percent off to 20 or 30 percent.

The cost of tickets to Guilin and Sanya has risen for that period, the company said.

Zhang Wei, ticket supervisor for Ctrip, said the ticket prices are expected to drop after April 5.

Hotels, however, will not see a large increase in their rates during the holiday, though the number of bookings is soaring.

In Suzhou, a room in a budget hotel will cost 200 yuan (US$28) during the holiday, and the prices are not expected to alter, authorities said.

In Hangzhou, rooms at three-star or less hotels will be hard to find but the prices will not change. And all the hotels in Yangzhou are busy for the holiday so far, said the company.

The hotel department of Ctrip said price changes are usually caused by exhibitions and other major events, not the coming holiday.

Having a break in the suburbs during the holiday, which runs from Friday to Sunday, could also be a good idea and offer a chance to view the spring flowers, says the Shanghai Tourism Administrative Commission.
