Ruiya Guoji Jiudian (Swiss Belhotel on the Park)
Situated on a relatively sleepy lane in the center of Hankou, the Swiss Belhotel (formerly the New World Courtyard) is within walking distance of major shops and parks. The staff is used to repeat and extended-stay business guests, which may account for the genuine and universal warmth with which they treat even short-term guests. The Swiss Belhotel meets many of the standards of a much pricier hotel with amenities such as English TV programming and a Western-style breakfast buffet. Yet while the rooms are pleasant enough and very well maintained, they're not large, and the beds and furniture show wear. At $40 or $50 a night (standard room with a 50%-plus discount), this is the best bargain in town, but its popularity makes reservations advised. Call ahead from within China. An English speaker is always on duty.
