Xie Xiansheng Canting (Mr. Xie Restaurant)
This franchise, with three locations, makes for one of Wuhan's more popular nights out. Nearly always packed, the restaurants don't claim to offer any particular type of Chinese cuisine, although Hunan and Hubei dishes feature prominently. A couple to watch for includexiåomi paigu(steamed spareribs and millet) andjianjiao kou wubao(sauteed baby turnip greens with dried red peppers). In any case, the picture menu will help you order. The readily accessible Mr. Xie is about a 10-minute walk from the Novotel and it's difficult to miss: The two-story building has big windows letting you see into the white-tiled interior, replete with gold gilded stairwell. But if you are willing to brave the decor, the food is worth the effort, as is the lively ambience of the Chinese indulging in their favorite pastime: eating.
