The Shanghai government will ensure labor security and punish enterprises that deliberately withhold wages, it said at yesterday’s municipal meeting on the protection of workers rights.
Shanghai Vice Mayor Hu Yanzhao addressed the meeting.
The departments for labor security at all levels have paid back wages for thousands of workers since 1999 when a system for back pay was set up.
The government urged enterprises to be responsible and pay salaries on time.
