French exhibitor Solal and his son open a bottle of champagne at their stand to celebrate the opening of the imports section of the Guangzhou Fair on April 15.
The Guangzhou Fair received a record 39,461 buyers on its opening day, bringing the total number of visitors to 47,656, up 16.55% over the previous session. The fair also saw booming import and export transactions, with USD 76.801 million of export deals signed, up 9% over the previous session. The first import order of the Guangzhou trade delegation was placed by a local company which ordered USD 2.705 million worth of home furnishings from an international supplier.
On the first day, the imports exhibition area of the Guangzhou Fair was tightly packed with domestic and overseas buyers and reporters. By 10 am, long queues stretched out in front of the Pazhou Complex, and security guards had to place a cordon around the exit of the subway station to control the crowds.
Ms. Xu Xin, who has previously emigrated to Surinam, a small country in South America, is back to procure Chinese commodities. She said, "Chinese commodities are very competitive in terms of prices, so our stores in foreign countries are profitable. But, I also want to find out what the imports exhibition area offers; I may bring some South American products to China."
