Youyi Binguan (Friendship Hotel)
This six-story hotel is popular with young Chinese visitors, but few foreign travelers have discovered it, despite its proximity to the U.S. Consulate. Small, simple, and built around a pleasant garden and pond, it's basic but handy for access to many Chinese and Western restaurants, a coffee shop (Coffee Beanery), and the Trust-mart Supermarket. Although there's no elevator or Internet access, the rooms are clean with a decor that is slightly better than standard. The hotel fills up during the busy season (Mar-Oct), especially on weekends. Without reservations you're unlikely to get a room here during national holidays.
