Shenyang Marriott (Shenyang Huangchao Wanhao Jiudian)
This ostentatious hotel was the only full-fledged Marriott in China until the chain opened a second branch in Beijing in 2002. The property is luxurious, but its blinding exterior and the gold-and-crystal garishness of its lobby can leave you craving subtlety. Guest rooms mirror the rest of the hotel, with plush beds and beautiful redwood furniture. Small bathrooms have generous marble fittings. There's an excellent but pricey Japanese restaurant on the premises.
