InterContinental Grand Stanford

This older hotel has seen lots of renovations and upgrades that have lifted it from its previous mundane existence into one of Tsim Sha Tsui East's top hotels. It's located right on the waterfront, near the hover-ferry service to Central, and boasts a lively, high-ceilinged lobby with a cafe perfect for watching the never-ending stream of international guests. I also like the rooftop swimming pool, which is heated and open year-round and affords great city views. Rooms are more homey than most hotel accommodations, with such added details as trim work bordering the ceiling, large mirrors above TV consoles, good bedside lights, plants on desks, lit magnifying mirrors that reveal flaws you never knew you had, and good harbor views through floor-to-ceiling windows of half the rooms (because of a highway that runs alongside the harbor, be sure to request a room on a high floor). If you can't afford a full harbor view, "side harbor views" are almost as good, due to the hotel's undulating V-shaped facade; unfortunately, the windows of the least expensive rooms open rather unceremoniously onto a windowless wall. Probably the biggest drawback is the 10-minute walk to Tsim Sha Tsui, but it does offer hotel guests a free shuttle service to several locations in Tsim Sha Tsui every 30 to 45 minutes.
