TheJinye Dajiudian,in Cidu Da Dao (tel.0798/858-8888;fax 0798/8566-2233; jd668899@public1.jd.jx.cn), is the best choice (opened in 2002). A three-star hotel in nice condition, it has 21 stories and 228 rooms, but it could do with a few more elevators to reach them. The guest rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms clean. Standard rooms are ¥358 to ¥458 ($45-$57), and suites ¥788 to ¥1,588 ($99-$199), usually with a 30% discount. The usual credit cards are accepted, but there's no foreign exchange. Some "overseas Chinese" tour groups stay here. The restaurant is good value. Of the many budget options along the main street, Zhu Shan Lu, the two-starJinsheng Binguanat no. 29 (tel.0798/827-1818;fax 0798/820-7818) is the best choice, refurbished in 2002. Carpetless standard rooms with common bathroom are ¥80 ($10); standard rooms, modest but not too battered, are ¥138 to ¥288 ($17-$36); and triple rooms are ¥180 ($23). Discounts of 15% are easily negotiated. There's a restaurant but no forex service, and credit cards are not accepted. The cheaper standard rooms have bathrooms which double as shower cubicles, but the more expensive rooms have proper bathrooms. April through November is the busy season
