Belgian Diamond Association in China Established in Panyu

The Zuanhui International Jewelry Trading Center of Guangzhou was recently unveiled in Panyu City, concurrent to the official establishment of The Belgian Diamond Association in China. 

The Association was established jointly by the Belgian Consulate in China, the Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangzhou Municipality and the Zuanhui International Jewelry Trading Center. The mission of the association is to provide professional consultation services for the Zuanhui Center, the government of Panyu District and the government of Guangzhou City.

According to Mr. Mickey, a Belgian businessman specialized in high-end diamond dealing, "The workers reaching our requirement could only be found back in Belgium or in the Panyu District. In Belgium, our workers are largely elderly people in their forties or fifties, who are experienced and highly-skilled, while here in Panyu, the workers are mostly youngsters aged 20 or so. Though less experienced and skilled, they are earnest and dedicated in their work. With their diligence and the strict quality control of the enterprises here in Peal River Delta, Panyu has a strong edge in developing within the diamond industry."

During recent years the world jewelry industry has been shifting its center from Europe and the U.S moving ever more quickly toward Asia, and China in particular. According to statistics, China now takes a 10% share of all diamond cutting and polishing in the world. Some expert estimate that the figure will reach 21.3% by the year 2015.
