Grand Hyatt Shanghai (Shanghai Jin Mao Junyue Dajiudian)
Currently the world's tallest hotel, running from the 54th to the 88th floors of the Jin Mao Tower, the ultraluxurious Grand Hyatt is more of a novelty hotel than a practical one. True, the views of the Bund and Pudong are astonishing, when you are not fogged in, that is; the guest rooms, which combine Art Deco and traditional Chinese motifs with high-tech designs, are lush and luxurious; and the fine dining options are unparalleled, but the burden of renown has also made the staff a bit stand-offish. Open since 1999, the hotel is already undergoing a major renovation. The hotel's high-flying address means you should allow extra time to get to your destination. Those prone to claustrophobia or vertigo would do well to choose anotherpied-a-terre.
Facilities:6 restaurants; food pavilion; 2 lounges; nightclub; indoor "skypool" (world's highest swimming pool); health club with Jacuzzi and sauna; concierge; tour desk; 24-hr. business center; salon; 24-hr. room service; same-day laundry service/dry cleaning; executive-level rooms.
