Youth hostels are taking over the budget accommodations niche in China, and this one is the best option in town. A magnificent restored courtyard residence, it formerly housed the Xianyang County government. Chinese visitors wonder why foreigners put up with rooms that have concrete-and-tile floors and hot water that only runs from 6pm to 12:30am (although you can ask for it at other times). What you get is a friendly English-speaking staff, an excellent location, impartial and useful information, and that rare commodity in China -- ambience.
