Modern Hotel (Madie'er Binguan)
The most glamorous hotel in Harbin during the city's heyday, the three-story Art Nouveau hotel fell on hard times in the early Communist era. While it's improved significantly since, say, the Cultural Revolution, the rooms don't measure up to the history of the place. Still, the location smack in the middle of Zhongyang Dajie and the fair prices makes it a very good choice. Standard rooms are rather lackluster and devoid of character; bathrooms are small but very clean.
