Ma Family Shaomai (Ma Jia Shaomai Guan)
Great-great-great-grandpa Ma is rumored to have first sold these award-winningshaomai(steamed open-top dumplings) from a street-side wheelbarrow in 1796. Prices on the menu are for a plate of 10 dumplings, but feel free to mix and match and order less or more accordingly -- eight dumplings for one hungry person is more than enough. The most delicious offering here is thechuantong(traditional)shaomai, with beef and ginger.Yu cui(jade green)shaomai, with egg and spring onion is excellent vegetarian fare
