Crowne Plaza/Holiday Inn Zhengzhou (Zhengzhou Huangguan Jiari Binguan)
Situated in the northeastern part of town, this hotel chain is in the rather unusual position of having the five-starCrowne Plazaand the four-starHoliday Innright next to each other and sharing many of the same facilities and management. The three-starExpress by Holiday Inn Zhengzhou(see listing below), converted from the former International Hotel, joined the party in 2005 (but does not share in the amenities). Don't let the copious use of marble and gold trim keep you from the Crowne Plaza; this is the best hotel in the province. Rooms are spacious, beds are luminously comfortable, and bathrooms are stocked with accessories. Service is extraordinarily warm and helpful, and the breakfast buffet offers expertly cooked omelets and delicious breads and fruit. There's free broadband access in all rooms and free wireless access in the lobby. The large indoor pool with a sunroof and chirping birds is one of the best in China, and an a new driving range, added behind the Holiday Inn (¥100/$13 for two buckets of balls), adds to the allure. Rooms at the Holiday Inn, geared more toward the business traveler looking for a less flashy, quieter environment, are smaller but were recently renovated and are very comfortable with clean and modern bathrooms.
