Lao Jie Diyi Lou
Housed in a traditional three-story Huizhou-style building at the eastern end of Old Street, this is a clean and therefore excellent place to try Huizhou cuisine, which is typically strong and pungent, emphasizing spicy and salty flavors. Specialties includeHuang Shan suweiyuan(stir-fried mountain vegetables, tofu, pumpkin, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, and medicinal herbs),wucai shansi(eel stir-fried with peppers, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots) andchou doufu(smelly tofu). The food is tasty but service is a bit uneven.
