Located in the Tibetan quarter, the Kyichu combines Western comfort with a welcoming Tibetan atmosphere. Rooms in the new south wing opened in 2001. Overlooking an incongruous lawn with white outdoor furniture, these midsize rooms boast clean wooden floors, simple furnishings, and spotless bathrooms with deep tubs. Tourists rave about the excellent service here, saying that the staff members are the nicest people in all of Tibet. The solar-heated hot water can be unreliable. The restaurant on the first floor prepares a superb buffet breakfast for ¥30 ($3.70).
