The Grape (Putao Yuan Jiujia)

Located in part of a stunning domed former Russian Orthodox church (though little of it is obvious in today's restaurant), the Grape was one of the first Shanghai eateries to attract foreign residents. Today, this friendly, down-to-earth (except for the clusters of plastic grapes that hang overhead) cafe keeps a core group of expats and locals happy with its reasonably priced homemade Shanghai cuisine and friendly service. The phoenix tail shrimps with garlic, steamed clams with eggs, spicy chicken, and braised fresh bamboo shoots are all worth trying.
