Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill
Located in the huge Ocean Terminal complex at its southernmost end, where cruise ships dock, this casual restaurant serves real American food, with portions big enough to satisfy a hungry cowboy. The decor is Anywhere, USA, but with a difference -- since it's located right by the Star Ferry, the Chicago Grill offers views of the famous harbor from a few select seats. The lunch menu is substantial, including such classic American favorites as buffalo chicken wings, potato skins, nachos, New England clam chowder, barbecued ribs, steaks, spaghetti, lasagna, chili, great hamburgers (a hit with kids), and large deli sandwiches. There are also daily lunch specials, available Monday through Friday, beginning at HK$70 (US$9.10/£5). The dinner menu is confined mainly to barbecued steaks, chops, fish, and pasta. Admittedly, most dishes here are a bit pricey, but if you're hungering for the real thing, you might consider it a lifesaver. You can also come just for a drink at its bar, and there are English-language newspapers for customer perusal.
There's another Dan Ryan's at Pacific Place in Admiralty, 88 Queensway (tel.852/2845 4600;MTR: Admiralty), open Monday through Friday from 11am to midnight, Saturday from 9am to 2am, and Sunday from 9am to midnight.
