Power supplied to 'Bird's Nest'

On July 1, 2007, electricity started to be supplied to the National Stadium, or the "Bird's Nest."

Located at the Olympic Green, and with a land surface of 258,000 square meters and a seating capacity of 91,000, the stadium will be used for football and athletics competitions, as well the opening and closing ceremonies during the Beijing Olympic Games starting on August 8, 2008.After the Games, it will be used for sports events at national and international levels, as well as cultural and entertainment activities.

The project was designed by Herzog & Demeuron (Swiss) and China Architecture Design Institute, and its construction began on December 2003.

With the installation and test process completed within two months, the power system started to operate thanks to a successful power supply by Chaoyang Power Company under Beijing Electric Power Corporation, according to Beijing Daily.
