People in Shanghai will be able to access to wireless broadband anywhere, anytime in 2010 during World Expo 2010, the Shanghai information industry authority promised yesterday.
“Our general target is to exhibit the achievements of the information era and to make it a highlight of World Expo 2010,”said an official of Shanghai Municipal Information Commission during their meeting with the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination yesterday.
The city also started the global solicitation of theses about information plans for World Expo 2010. When the information master plan for World Expo 2010 Shanghai has been finished, the city will develop a massive system for the management of Expo construction and operations.
Part of the advanced technology will be used in Expo, such as monitoring system on balloons and electronic fences to ensure site security.
The system will be completed by the end of 2009 and start operation in 2010.
So far, nine international cables have been connected to Shanghai, making the city an important information hinge in the Asian-Pacific region. The information industry has been working for five years to become the city’s most important backbone.
