Propaganda Poster Art Center (Xuanchuanhua Yishu Zhongxin)
If you have just the wall space for some revolutionary art, this place has just the right "left" poster for you. Tucked away in the basement of a French Concession apartment building is the personal collection of a private individual, Mr. Yang Peiming. It comprises over 5,000 Communist propaganda posters from 1949 to 1979. The presentation is a bit haphazard, but the posters themselves are quite interesting. Chairman Mao figures prominently, of course, as do eager, ruddy-cheeked young workers and fervent Red Guards. Vintage posters are for sale as well (from around ¥700/$88 and up), but not necessarily the most interesting ones. The center is worth a peek if you're in the area.
