By Long-Distance Bus

National Highway Lines 312 (Shanghai-Yining City of Xinjiang), 318 (Shanghai-Zhangmu Town of Tibet) and 320 (Shanghai-Ruili of Yunnan) all start from Shanghai and go westward. National Highway Line 204 (Yantai-Shanghai), the trunk line of the Tongjiang-Sanya National Highway, stretches as a north-south artery through Shanghai. Four main expressways of Huning (Shanghai-Nanjing), Huhang (Shanghai-Hangzhou), Hujialiu (Shanghai-Jiading-Taicang), and Huqingping (Shanghai-Qingpu-Pingwang) link Shanghai with lots of cities in neighboring areas.

The developed highway network enables Shanghai to have consummate long-distance bus passenger transport system. Shanghai now has about 1,680 long-distance bus routes radiating to cities in 17 provinces all over the country. There are over 40 long-distance bus stations based in the city zone and the suburbs, mainly concentrated in Zhabei District especially the area near Shanghai Railway Station.

Main Coach Stations in Shanghai
1. Shanghai Long-Distance General Bus Station
This is the largest passenger transport long-distance bus station in Shanghai. Every day, there are about 420 buses departing from the station following over 150 routes. Buses are bound for cities in six provinces of East China including Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Fujian as well as cities in the provinces of Liaoning, Hebei, Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guangdong. You can take bus nos. 106, 115, 117, 305, 310, 515, 517, 823, 859, 912, 928, 929, 962, or Subway Line 1 or 3 to get to the station.

2. Hutai Road Long-Distance Bus Station - Shanghai Bus Transportation Co., Ltd.
In this station, you will find buses bound for Qingdao and Rizhao of Shandong Province, Lianyungang, Nanjing, and Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province, Hangzhou and Shaoxing of Zhejiang Province, Wuhan of Hubei, and Ma'anshan of Anhui. Tourist buses to Mt. Huangshan, Mt. Jiuhuashan and Wuzhen can also be found here. Buses nos. 40, 47, 58, 69, 128, 213, 216, 224, 234, 309, 332, 510, 525, 706, 710, 741, 767B, 822, 844, 845, 849, 869, 924, 963, Beijia Special Line, Beiluo Line, Beian Line, and Subway Line 1 can take you to the station.

3. Jiaotong Dazhong Long-Distance Bus Station - Shanghai Jiaotong Dazhong Passenger Transport Co., Ltd.
The station provides coaches to Wuhan of Hubei Province, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou in Jiangsu Province, Hefei and Ma'anshan in Anhui, as well as cities in provinces of Shandong, Henan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, and Fujian. Many buses can take you to the station including nos. 1, 106, 117, 129, 136, 516, 708, 724, 742, 744, 754, 768, 807, 827, 832, 838, 856, 859, 866, and Airport Line 6.

4. Hutie (Shanghai Railway) Long-Distance Bus Station - Shanghai Railway Passenger Transport Co., Ltd.
Buses departing from this station take passengers to Beijing, Jinan, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Ningbo, Jiaxing, Jiangyin, Wuhan, Hefei, Yichang, and Jiujiang. You can easily get to the station by bus nos. 64, 104, 109, 128, 301, 324, 710, 722, 741, 767B, 801, or 955.

5. Beiqu Long-Distance Bus Station - Shanghai Long-Distance Bus Transportation Corporation
This is an important long-distance passenger transport hub in Shanghai. With over 200 routes, this station has buses bound for Jinan, Qingdao, and Yantai in Shandong, Suzhou, Zhangjiagang, and Zhouzhuang in Jiangsu, Wuhan of Hubei, and many other cities in Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian, Henan, and Guangdong. You can take bus nos. 18, 65, 66, 69, 78, 101, 108, 518, 537, 928, 929, or take Subway Line 3 or 4 to get to the station.

6. Bailianjing Bus Station - Pudong Long-Distance Bus Transportation Co., Ltd.
This Station operates buses on over 170 routes to Qingdao of Shandong, Suzhou, Yangzhou, and Zhouzhuang in Jiangsu, Hangzhou and Jiaxing of Zhejiang, Hefei of Anhui, and cities in Hubei, Jiangxi, and Fujian. Buses nos. 82, 83, 86, 119, 570, 574, 588, 610, 614, 619, 626, 734, 787, 818, and 835 are convenient vehicles to get there.

7. Hudong Bus Transportation Corporation Long - Distance General Bus Station
Located at Tilanqiao in the North Bund Area, the station has 88 long-distance bus routes to Qingdao and Weihai in Shandong, Yangzhou and Yancheng in Jiangsu, Wenzhou of Zhejiang, Fuzhou of Fujian, and cities in provinces of Anhui, Jiangxi, and Hubei. You can get to the station by many buses such as nos. 13, 19, 22, 25, 28, 37, 134, 135, 223, 401, 510, 746, 841, 842, 868, 921, 934, and 940.

8. Xujiahui Bus Station - Shanghai Jiaotong Dayu Transportation Co., Ltd.
Buses departing from this station run between Shanghai and cities in some southern provinces, including Nanjing, Wuxi, Suzhou, and Yangzhou in Jiangsu, Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Ningbo, and Shaoxing in Zhejiang, Hefei and Wuhu in Anhui, Changsha of Hunan, and Wuhan of Hubei. You have many choices to get there, including buses nos. 2, 15, 42, 50, 56, 72, 93, 122, 126, 205, 401, 548, 593, 712, 770, 806, 814, 830、840, 855, 864, 920, 927, 931, 946, Airport Line 3, Xumin Line, Xuchuan Line, Xuhua Line, Tourist Line 7 and 10, as well as Subway Line 1, 3 and 4.

9. Pudong International Airport Long-Distance Bus Station
This station is very convenient if you need to transfer to other cities after your flight arriving at Pudong Airport. Here, buses are bound for Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Qingtian, and Yiwu in Zhejiang Province, as well as Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Kunshan, and Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu Province. You can buy tickets at the ticket office at No. 6-7 or No. 8-9 gate of the arrivals hall of the airport.

Tourist Collecting and Distributing Center
Apart from Shanghai's own attractions, scenic spots around Shanghai are well worth a visit. Shanghai Tourist Collecting and Distributing Center has five branches of set in different areas of the city. It has over 150 bus routes to 250 tourist attractions in neighboring provinces such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang. It is also a convenient place to buy tickets for one or two days travel around Shanghai especially to some of the ancient towns, like Zhujiajiao, Tongli, Zhouzhuang, and Wuzhen.

Tourist Shopping Bus
Shanghai has introduced tourist shopping buses bound for Yiwu (a famous wholesale market of small articles in China) of Zhejiang Province. Every morning at 7:00 a bus starts from People's Square of Shanghai and Yiwu respectively. It reaches the destination within three hours and returns at 17:00.

Tourist shopping buses operating between Shanghai and Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu Province are also available. The bus starts from Jinhaihua Restaurant in Zhangjiagang at 8:30 every Saturday. It stops at Qipu Road and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street of Shanghai. After staying in the city for almost ten hours, the bus makes its return at 20:00. A round trip costs CNY 80 per person.
