An “international rescue” took place on Tuesday when six children from Russia and Korea, a Chinese woman and firefighters rescued a stray cat trapped in a ditch at the Xgbao International Community in Wangjing, Chaoyang,

The six children, three of whom are brothers from Russia and the other three from South Korea, were playing in the vicinity of the community on Monday evening, while they heard persistent meowing from a nearby ditch.

They got on their hands and knees to follow the voice and finally saw a small stray cat trapped in a six to seven-meter ditch as the cat tried in vain to jump out.

With nothing they could do for the cat, they asked a woman surnamed Liu, in broken Chinese, for help. However, since part of the ditch was sealed with an iron fence, Liu and the children could not reach the cat but were able to drop some food through the fence.

At 10 o’clock in the evening, the children had no choice but to go home. Liu called the police. The rescue started the next day as firefighters sent a member to the ditch with a string. The cat was put into the firefighter’s helmet and pulled up. When the cat was set on the ground, the six anxiously awaiting children immediately caressed the feline and fed it. ithout the children’s help, the poor little cat would probably still be trapped,” Liu saidAfter the success of the rescue, the children and Liu also found her a home – an American couple living nearby who had alrady adopted another stray in January.
