Victory Hotel (Shengli binguan) is located on the famous island--Shamian Island, which is rich in historical and cultural value. The hotel has a long history--it was originally Victoria Hotel built by the British and is currently the only one in Guangzhou city that still maintains a west-European architectural style. The heavily vegetated hotel also boasts a garden-style surroundings and convenient traffic.
Its 330 suites, whether decorated in Chinese, Japanese or French style, all reveal a strong aesthetic feel while at the same time are equipped with modern facilities. Its business center, conference rooms and multi functional hall are just suitable for corporate meetings and business exhibitions. Besides, the hotel also boasts a shopping center, a dancing hall, fitness center, a tennis court and other recreational facilities.
This hotel has two premises within 2 minutes' walk of each other, both in old colonial buildings with some character. The "four-star" version renovated most floors to a good standard in 2002 (the eighth floor was omitted). The rooms have all the standard amenities, plus free TV-based Internet access. Suites have good bathrooms with proper shower cubicles. There are Western and Chinese restaurants and, bizarrely in such an old building, there's a rooftop swimming pool. The three-star building is the original Victory, with an excellent dim sum restaurant in one corner. The rooms are plainer but in better decorative repair than the average three-star hotel. The cheapest have no windows, but the slightly more expensive ones are larger than average and come with small sitting rooms.
