E-commerce trade speeds up in Shanghai

Shanghai’s e-commerce trade turnover reached 200 billion yuan (US$26 billion), up from 25.3 billion yuan in the past five years, and accounted for 12 percent of the city’s trade volume.

Shanghai will continue to issue more regulations to promote the development of international e-commerce business, according to the 2007 International Summit Forum on E-commerce, which was held in Shanghai on Friday.

The forum was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Foreign Economic Relations & Trade Commission. Shanghai Vice Mayor Tang Dengjie addressed delegates at the opening ceremony while Zhu Xiaoming, deputy director of the standing committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, gave a speech at the forum.
