Simply point to choose from the usual array of cold appetizers, eggplant, tofu, vegetables, chicken, noodles, and soups, priced from ¥3 to ¥10 (40¢-$1.25) per dish.
There are restaurants serving traditional Shandong cuisine on Chaoshan Jie near the heart of the town. Try thema popo men shuangsun(steamed bamboo and asparagus) the various kinds ofzhou(rice porridge) at Lao Hangzhou Jiu Wan Ban (Chaoshan Jie 18; tel.0531/8612-7228), where a meal for two costs ¥30 to ¥50 ($4-$6). The restaurant provides special slender chopsticks that are unique to the coastal town of Hangzhou.
