World Wide Fund for Nature, the world's largest non-governmental environmental protection organization, will explore sustainable development of estuary cities in its World Expo pavilion.
The organization announced its theme "River, Estuary and City - Global Practice of Comprehensive Estuarine Management" when it signed an official contract with Shanghai Expo organizers yesterday.
WWF plans to illustrate the causes of climate change and the negative impact on water levels through multi-media shows in its pavilion.
It hopes to show how to preserve estuarine cities such as Shanghai and Rotterdam from further deterioration.
Exhibits, devices and shows at the pavilion will be fun and family-oriented, and highly educational, said Dermot O'Gorman, director of the WWF pavilion. He added that the exhibition will incorporate a special part featuring China's solutions to conservation on the Yangtze River.
O'Gorman revealed the group would launch a competition in China to collect detailed designs for the fund's display.
