Shanghai had its hottest spring weekend of the year. The maximum temperature reached 31 degrees Celsius in the downtown area both on Saturday and yesterday, the weather bureau reported.
On Saturday, apart from Nanhui District which reached 29 degrees, all districts and Chongming County recorded temperatures over 30 degrees.
Baoshan and Jiading reached 32 degrees, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau reported.
Northerly winds became stronger yesterday, reaching speeds at 50 to 74 kilometers per hour, the bureau said.
A thunderstorm was forecast for early this morning. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 27 degrees. The hot weather is expected to continue through the middle of the week, with temperatures hovering at about 30 degrees.
For most of the week, overcast to cloudy skies are expected to be seen in the city.
From Friday, another rainy spell is expected, forecasters said.
Summer officially arrives when the daily average temperature is above 22 degrees for five straight days.
