Spain's King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sophia were honored by China Europe International Business School yesterday during the first day of their weeklong visit to China.
The king was awarded a Medal of Honor by CEIBS Executive President Pedro Nueno.
"We are very grateful for the royal support of CEIBS," Nueno said at yesterday's ceremony. "We are sure that the support will boost the business relationship between Spain and China."
Spain is the largest donor country to CEIBS, which was established by the European Union and the Shanghai governments in 1994.
Last fall, the Spanish Institute of External Commerce made an initial donation of 500,000 euros (US$672,780) to the partnership with CEIBS.
The cooperation was further expanded to focus on developing a center for entrepreneurship this April, earning the school another donation of 100,000 euros.
The king is scheduled to meet Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng today. He will meet President Hu Jintao during his stop in Beijing.
