The Golden Flower Hotel (Jin Hua Dajiudian)
Certainly the best location in town, this is also the first choice for foreign study groups, which often stop here after long field expeditions in the wilds of Yunnan. The lobby is a marvelous display of marble and bonsai, while the staff in traditional Bai dress, is friendly and helpful. Some rooms are a bit small but ask for room 2023 or 3023 and you'll be able to invite some friends over for a soccer match. Beds are soft and comfortable, enhanced by the sound of Chinese nightingales and other songbirds in the atrium. Often overlooked by independent travelers, The Golden Flower is worth checking into.
