Yangzhou Shi Bowuguan (Yangzhou City Museum)
Just east of the Yangzhou Hotel, this museum is housed in a temple complex dedicated to a local hero, a late Ming dynasty official named Shi Kefa, who led Yangzhou's citizenry against the advancing Qing army. Shi was killed when he refused to surrender, his body cut up into five pieces and strewn to the wind. In the 10 days after his death, which came to be known as "Ten Days in Yangzhou," Qing troops killed 80,000 Yangzhou residents. Shi's jade belt, clothes, and cap are buried in the tumulus behind the hall. The museum itself features some Han coffins, a Tang canoe, and a jade funeral suit with copper threads.
