YMCA Hotel (Qingnian Hui Binguan)
This historic brick building, built in 1929, really was the YMCA in colonial times; now it's a three-star budget hotel, with a slightly dilapidated air but a great location right in the heart of old Shanghai. Rooms are a bit drab, but the bathrooms are at least fairly clean. Dorm rooms with shared bathroom facilities are also available though these are spartan at best. Formerly a big draw for international backpackers who seem to have decamped for other budget quarters, the hotel caters more to Chinese these days, though the hotel's restaurant still serves Western food. Front desk staff speaks a little English and can be helpful when pressed.
Facilities:
Restaurant; cafe; health club; small business center; salon; room service; next-day laundry service/dry cleaning.
