The city will add a new shuttle bus to connect Hongqiao Airport with the nearest Metro station to offer more convenient travel choices for arriving air passengers, the Shanghai Urban Transport Management Bureau officials revealed yesterday.
The shuttle bus, which is still under pre-service preparation, will run from Hongqiao to Songhong Road Station at the western end of Metro Line 2. The bus terminal will be at the original terminal of Bus No.925, in front of the airport terminal building. Tickets will cost 1 yuan (14 US cents).
It is expected to be open by the end of this month, Han Peide, the bureau's Party secretary said at a seminar during the city's top advisory body's inspection of Hongqiao traffic conditions yesterday.
"The short-distance shuttle bus is expected to offer a quick passenger dispersal and transport solution for the airport, especially at peak hours of arrival," Han said.
Sitting at the western side of the city, Hongqiao Airport is not currently serviced by any Metro lines. It is about 4 kilometers away from the nearest Metro station, Songhong Road Station.
Inadequate bus and taxi services at Hongqiao have been high on the list of public complaints, as arriving passengers often wait for hours in line for a taxi.
Members of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the city's top advisory body, put forward proposals earlier this year calling on the city government to increase taxi flow around the airport. An extra taxi waiting line and increasing the number of taxi set-down spots has reduced passenger waiting time to about 20 minutes.
