Luoyang's small airport is located about 11km (7 miles) north of the city center. There are dailyflightsfrom Luoyang to Beijing (1 1/2 hr.) and Shanghai (1 hr., 40 min.), as well as weekly flights to Xi'an (1 hr.), Chengdu (1 hr., 15 min.), and Chongqing (1 1/2 hr.). Tickets can be purchased at theCAAC office(Minghang Shoupiao Chu;tel.0379/6231-0121) on Jichang Lu just north of the railway station.CITSis at Jiudu Xi Lu 4, Luyou Dasha (tel.0379/6432-5061); they can also arrange tickets.
From therailway station(tel.0379/395-2673) just north of the city center on Daonan XiLu, trains run to Beijing (express train 8 hr.), Shanghai (15 hr.), Xi'an (6 hr.), Zhengzhou (2 hr.), and Kaifeng (3 hr.).
From thelong-distance bus station(changtu qichezhan;tel.0379/6323-9453), opposite the railway station on Jinguyuan Lu, buses run to Zhengzhou (every 20 min. 5:40am-7pm; 2-2 1/2 hr.; ¥24-¥30/$3-$3.75), Kaifeng (every 30 min. 6:40am-6pm; 3 hr.; ¥3/$4.50), and Dengfeng (hourly; 1 1/2 hr.; ¥13/$1.60).Private carrental from Zhengzhou to Luoyang will run around ¥300 ($38) one-way and ¥400 ($50) round-trip. Your hotel can arrange this.
Getting Around
Mosttaxischarge ¥6 (75¢) for 3km (2 miles), then ¥1 (15¢) per kilometer until 10km (6 miles), after which the price rises to ¥1.50 (20¢) per kilometer. From 10pm to 5am, prices rise to ¥5.80 (75¢) for 2km (1 1/4 miles), then ¥1.75 (20¢) per kilometer thereafter. The bus costs ¥1 (15¢). From the railway station, bus no. 81 runs to the Longmen Grottoes, bus no. 83 runs to the airport, and bus no. 11 runs to the western part of town via the Friendship Hotel.
